Here's How To Follow Your Dreams

When I was 18 years old I made a goal. I decided that I would become an internationally recognized DJ and motivational speaker that has raised 1 million dollars for charitable causes. I this goal with a specific date in mind and I'm happy to say that I'm successfully working on this dream. It has been many years since I set that goal and while many people give up on their dreams I have a few tips that have helped me stay the course.

The truth about following your dreams is that its both simple and complicated. Let's start with the simple part. In order to follow your dreams, all you need to do is make a goal, decide you want to achieve that goal and then do everything in your power to accomplish that goal. Easy right [ ] Wrong. The complicated wrench in all of this is a little thing called "life". It is this thing that is full of twists and turns, obstacles and distractions. It can be tempting to give in to life. But if you have a goal that is important to you there is a way to avoid getting off course.

I say when life gets in the way of your dreams remember your "why". Why are you doing the thing you are doing in the first place [] I originally said that in order to follow your dreams you have to make a goal, decide you want to achieve that goal and then do everything in your power to accomplish that goal. But there is one caveat. In order to stay in it for years to come when life will inevitably throw obstacles your way, you must have a reason for doing what your doing before you even start. Know your 'why' write it down and keep it on hand so you can look at it when times get tough.

Everyone's "why will be different and personal. I won't go in the details of why I do what I do, but the fact that I have a reason kept me going when hit hard times. When I decided that I would become an internationally recognized DJ and motivational speaker, I moved to Toronto from Windsor with $1.11 in my pocket. I was homeless for three years following that and I had to drop out of school. And yet I was somehow able to keep DJing and growing my career. I  attribute that to the fact that I knew my motivation for DJing early on, I made a goal, I decided that I would stop at nothing to make it happen and I am still working relentlessly to accomplish what I set out to do.

So if you have a dream you are eager to follow, I encourage you to do the same. It might not be fast, It might not be easy, but if you want it I know you will achieve it! Tell me about your goals and dreams in the comments and if you know someone who needs a little motivation, share the good vibes and send them this email.
